In an infinite 1D well, only standing waves that fit the box are allowed. Higher levels have shorter wavelengths, more nodes, and larger energies.
Rule
For a particle in a box, ψn(x) ∝ sin(nπx/L) and En ∝ n²/L². That simple geometry already forces quantization.
